Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm, 37.5 hours
Role Summary: £40,000

The Health, Safety & Environmental Officer is responsible for promoting, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental compliance within the MRO organisation. The role ensures that all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with applicable aviation regulations, occupational health and safety legislation, and environmental standards, while fostering a strong safety culture across the organisation.

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety and environmental legislation, aviation regulations and company procedures
  • Support and maintain the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety legislation, aviation authority requirements and local fire authority standards
  • Ensure appropriate fire detection, alarm, suppression and firefighting equipment is installed, maintained and inspected
  • Identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and implement effective control measures across hangars, workshops, aprons and offices
  • Carry out regular safety, environmental and workplace inspections and audits
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking
  • Compile SHEF checklist for audits.
  • Monitor and manage hazardous substances, including COSHH/REACH compliance, fuel, oils, chemicals, and composite materials
  • Oversee environmental controls, including waste management, spill prevention, noise, emissions, and pollution control
  • Deliver or coordinate HSE training and safety briefings for employees and contractors
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, awareness campaigns and reporting initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with EASA/CAA Part-145, local authority requirements and occupational safety regulations
  • Support emergency response planning, drills and incident preparedness
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports and performance metrics
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors and external stakeholders during inspections and audits
  • Advise management on HSE risks, trends and improvement opportunities
  • Carry out regular inspections to check H&S policies and procedures are being properly implemented. Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
  • Processing airside requirements and qualifications with Cardiff Airport-St Athan (must have/achieve Level 3 in Education & Training qualification)
  • Conduct equipment inspection to ensure they are correctly installed and operational
  • Facilitate and schedule repairs of unsafe or damaged equipment

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within an aircraft maintenance (MRO), aviation, aerospace, or heavy engineering environment
  • Practical knowledge of EASA/CAA Part-145, Safety Management Systems (SMS) and aviation quality systems
  • Experience investigating incidents, near misses, and fire-related events
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent fire-risk qualification
  • Formal training in UK fire safety legislation (or local equivalent), including Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and Fire Risk Assessment
